Over the last six decades, the department has conferred over 700 doctoral degrees, with clinical psychology accounting for roughly 75% of these. Alumni pursue diverse careers as educators, investigators, mental health practitioners, and policy advisors, occupying leadership roles across the Southeast and nationwide.
The curriculum focuses on blending scientific understanding with professional competencies essential for clinical psychologists in academic, research, or healthcare environments.
Students initiate clinical studies in their first year and maintain ongoing practical training and research involvement throughout the program. All clinical trainees share foundational coursework, while specialized options, electives, field placements, and research projects allow for individualized learning paths.
Every candidate must complete a yearlong predoctoral clinical internship. While most apply in their fourth or fifth year, third-year residents may qualify if they'll finish required courses by year's end. Recent graduate internship placements from the past decade are detailed in the Student Admissions, Outcomes, and other Data section.
The program's clinical training philosophy combines multiple therapeutic perspectives, particularly emphasizing cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal process methodologies.
