The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Studio Art serves as the professional qualification for aspiring visual artists and designers, preparing them for careers in the arts, specialized fields, or advanced graduate studies. This program offers comprehensive training across multiple studio disciplines while enabling students to concentrate in one of seven focus areas: ceramics, digital media (including graphic design, digital arts, and animation), drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, or sculpture after completing foundational coursework.
The Art and Art History Department manages the Sella-Granata Art Gallery, which regularly showcases rotating exhibitions of student artwork. Crimson Clay, a student-run organization, facilitates ceramic arts engagement through community and statewide projects. Art and art history majors can apply for various departmental scholarships awarded each year to continuing students based on merit. Faculty members actively support students in securing internships and project placements with design firms, exhibition spaces, public art initiatives, museums, and the Alabama Art History Association. Additionally, the department collaborates with local galleries and art spaces to create exhibition opportunities for students.
