Statistics involves gathering, examining, interpreting, and presenting data. This field finds use across diverse academic disciplines including biology, chemistry, anthropology, geography, political science, and sociology. Its role in supporting evidence-based decision-making makes statistics valuable across public and private sectors, including both profit and nonprofit organizations.
Since nearly all fields require trustworthy and insightful statistical data—from mathematics and science to education and engineering—statistics graduates enjoy strong job opportunities. The University of Akron's statistics program equips students for advanced studies or rewarding careers in private industry, as well as federal, state, or local government positions.
The Statistics Department operates two modern computer labs and offers access to leading statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, JMP, and Minitab.
