The painting and drawing program at the Mary Schiller Myers School of Art provides a harmonious blend of formal techniques and conceptual approaches, aiming to create artwork that reflects personal expression while addressing both historical and modern artistic concerns.
Starting with foundational skills in observation and representation, students progress to exploring more intricate aspects of spatial relationships and color theory. Upper-level courses delve deeper into contemporary artistic challenges, fostering the creation of a distinctive portfolio through essential courses in: drawing, 2D design, 3D design, and figure drawing. The B.F.A. in Painting/Drawing opens doors to diverse career opportunities including professional artist, illustrator, graphic designer, educator, curator, gallery director, interior/exterior designer, or art therapist.
