The International Health and Sustainable Development (IHSD) MPH program prepares graduates for careers with international NGOs, public-private partnerships, and nonprofit research/consulting organizations. Its curriculum blends structured learning with customizable options, allowing students to tailor their studies to evolving global health priorities. A key program focus is developing expertise in global monitoring and evaluation practices. Students also gain exposure to health intervention approaches in low- and middle-income countries, which differ significantly from U.S. healthcare systems.
This professional public health training covers: 1) identifying major health challenges affecting vulnerable populations worldwide and their root causes, 2) measuring these problems' prevalence and impacts, 3) developing solutions through programs, policies, and research, and 4) assessing intervention effectiveness. The program leverages Tulane University's decades of global health leadership, drawing from its international research projects, technical assistance programs, and experience training students worldwide. Coursework highlights how cultural, social, and behavioral factors shape health outcomes.
