The Master of Music (M.M.) program provides specialized tracks in composition, conducting, music theory, musicology (each requiring 30 credit hours), pedagogy (36 credit hours), and performance (32 credit hours). This graduate degree mandates at least 30 credit hours of coursework, with performance majors presenting recitals, musicology and theory students completing a thesis, and composition students creating an original work. Musicology candidates must prove proficiency in a foreign language before graduating. The pedagogy specialization (for strings or keyboard) offers a 36-credit, thesis-free option. Performance majors (in jazz, keyboard, collaborative piano, strings, voice, or winds/percussion) complete a 32-credit program featuring two evaluated public recitals. Conducting students (choral, orchestral, or wind) may choose between two performances or one performance accompanied by a supporting research paper.
