Focused on developing skilled theater professionals and educators, the Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Arts is a top-tier professional degree offering specialized training in arts administration, design, performance and teaching methods, or playwriting. This program requires at least 60 credit hours beyond undergraduate studies and culminates in either a written thesis or a thesis project. As an intensive professional training initiative, the MFA delivers comprehensive education and hands-on experience within a chosen specialization. The Design concentration equips students for careers in professional theater and academic settings. Following foundational coursework in various design disciplines, students concentrate on their preferred design field, creating a customized program aligned with their skills and passions. Blending academic study with practical production experience, every MFA Design student undertakes significant design responsibilities or production roles each semester.

Qualification Requirements

The successful applicant to a master's program typically has a GPA of at least 3.0 in undergraduate work. The successful applicant to the doctoral program typically has a GPA of at least 3.4 in master's work. It is expected that a student entering a graduate program has successfully completed certain courses prior to their graduate work. The successful graduate student may be asked to level in courses they have not taken.
