The 12-hour Land Arts of the American West Graduate Certificate, offered through the Huckabee College of Architecture, focuses on the interdisciplinary Land Arts field program exploring the relationship between human-built environments and Earth's dynamic systems. This immersive desert southwest program uses hands-on fieldwork as its core teaching method, fostering research that broadens perspectives, encourages deep investigation, and enhances awareness of humanity's environmental impact. Drawing architects, artists, and writers from various disciplines, this 'domestic study abroad' program covers 6,000 miles overland with two months of camping, visiting iconic land art installations like Double Negative and The Lightning Field, while also exploring archaeological sites, military complexes, and modern infrastructure to redefine land art concepts. Participants create work inspired by their journey, culminating in an exhibition at Texas Tech University Museum.
