The School of Theatre and Dance collaborates with art, music, and philosophy departments to offer an interdisciplinary PhD program in Fine Arts. Students complete a 15-hour core curriculum focused on artistic interdisciplinarity, featuring four mandatory courses: a colloquium on disciplinary frameworks and interdisciplinary approaches, arts history studies, contemporary arts analysis, and philosophical aesthetics. Students also select one approved topics or aesthetics course to round out their core studies. Within the theatre specialization, candidates follow required coursework alongside tailored studies aligned with their professional aspirations and skill sets. (Full program details appear in the Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts catalog section.) Doctoral candidates must complete 18 graduate credit hours within a consecutive 12-month period to satisfy residency requirements.
