The doctoral program in Biological Sciences offers students comprehensive training guided by a tenure-track faculty mentor. Key research areas in the department encompass animal physiology, ecology, evolutionary and systematic biology, microbiology, plant sciences, biotechnology, and quantitative biology. Ph.D. candidates must meet Graduate School standards along with additional departmental requirements. All admitted students must enroll in BIOL 6202 during their initial fall semester. First-year teaching assistants are required to complete BIOL 6301, a specialized course focused on enhancing teaching abilities. These course obligations may only be waived by the Chair and Graduate Advisor in exceptional situations, with approval from the course instructor.
