The Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care (BSRC) program equips students to become certified respiratory care professionals and essential members of healthcare teams. Respiratory therapists specialize in evaluating patients with respiratory issues across various medical settings, including emergency departments, ICUs, and other clinical environments. They collaborate closely with physicians to assess oxygen levels and breathing challenges in newborns, children, and adults. These healthcare professionals deliver prescribed medications for respiratory relief, implement pulmonary therapies, and perform diagnostic tests for patients of all ages. Graduates pursue careers in diverse healthcare environments such as hospitals, pulmonary rehab centers, physician practices, sleep laboratories, home healthcare services, and emergency air transport teams, serving patients in critical care units and emergency departments.
This program readies students for respiratory therapy roles across multiple healthcare environments. Through a structured curriculum, students develop comprehensive cardiopulmonary expertise. They gain hands-on clinical experience during rotations and specialized internships. The initial two years of study occur in San Marcos, followed by specialized training during the final two years at the Round Rock Campus.
