Students in this program examine connections between eating habits—such as consuming whole versus processed foods—nutritional status, supplements, behaviors, and individual/community health outcomes, including health equity. The curriculum prepares graduates for diverse career paths in health education, clinical dietetics, food service management, public health nutrition, government roles, private practice, and consulting. Additionally, it provides foundational knowledge for graduate studies, research opportunities, and careers in food and wellness sectors. Three specialized pathways are available. The initial pathway combines the nutrition and foods major with an optional minor. The second pathway, the ACEND-accredited dietetics concentration, meets educational prerequisites for licensure. Completers of this track who fulfill all ACEND standards obtain a Verification Statement, enabling them to apply for dietetic internships toward becoming Registered Dietitian Nutritionists. The third pathway aligns with Texas Teacher Certification standards. Important: Background check requirements apply for this teaching option.
