The School of Journalism and Mass Communication holds accreditation from the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC). Our curriculum provides students with a comprehensive overview of mass communication, highlighting the core principles shared across advertising, digital media, broadcasting, journalism, and public relations. The Advertising (B.S.) program focuses on equipping students with strategic and creative abilities to address real-world business challenges for clients. Accordingly, the program includes courses encompassing key advertising and marketing roles, such as creative design, social media strategy and content creation, market research, business planning, media purchasing, and performance analysis. As students progress through the coursework, they explore diverse career paths in the industry while developing professional competencies for agency, corporate, or specialized communication roles. Additionally, students can join Texas State's nationally recognized AAF (American Advertising Federation) National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) team.
Students enrolled in any B.S. program within the School of Journalism and Mass Communication may opt for a Sports Media concentration. Those choosing this concentration can count the 9-hour specialization toward the 12 advanced MC elective credits required for the B.S. degree.
