The School of Journalism and Mass Communication holds accreditation from the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC). Our curriculum provides students with a comprehensive foundation in mass communication, covering essential principles shared across advertising, digital media, broadcasting, journalism, and public relations. Hands-on learning opportunities include working with campus media outlets like the University Star, KTSW 89.9 FM, Bobcat Update, Live Oak Studio Production, and Bobcat Promotions, as well as external internships. Students can also compete in intercollegiate events through prestigious organizations including the American Advertising Federation, Public Relations Society of America, Texas Intercollegiate Press Association, College Broadcasters, Inc., and the Society of Professional Journalists.
The Advertising (B.S.) program focuses on equipping students with strategic and creative problem-solving skills for real-world business challenges. Coursework explores key advertising and marketing roles, including creative direction, social media strategy, content creation, market research, business planning, media buying, and analytics. The curriculum prepares students for diverse career paths in agencies, corporations, or specialized firms. Additionally, students can join Texas State's nationally recognized AAF (American Advertising Federation) National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) team, which has earned multiple awards.
