The Department of Theatre and Dance champions equity and inclusive representation that mirrors our diverse student body, fosters community connections, cultivates empathy, and rejects discrimination. We actively promote social justice by ensuring fair access for every student, free from prejudice based on race, ethnicity, gender, age, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, faith, socioeconomic background, or political views. As creative professionals and educators, we pursue meaningful artistic partnerships in our learning environments, performance spaces, and rehearsal halls, with a steadfast commitment to fair representation and the active inclusion of historically marginalized voices and their artistic legacies.
Our curriculum develops skilled professionals across theatrical disciplines - from acting and design to writing, filmmaking, technical production, choreography, and K-12 arts education. Students learn directly from accomplished artist-educators with national and global reputations. Our distinguished faculty includes Broadway performers, television actors, professional dance company members, Tony Award-winning regional theater veterans, acclaimed filmmakers, internationally exhibited designers, published authors, and playwrights with productions in New York and worldwide. While offering comprehensive resources through our expert faculty, we maintain a personalized approach to student development. This program delivers practical, professional training in theater or film production and may be taken twice for credit.
Our intensive program explores all dimensions of theatrical performance and production, establishes strong foundations in theater history and criticism, introduces comprehensive process drama techniques with in-depth pedagogical training, and includes substantial teaching practice across K-12 educational settings.
