The Theatre and Dance Department champions equity and representation that mirrors our student body, fosters community, cultivates empathy, and rejects discrimination. We actively promote social justice by ensuring equal opportunities for every student, free from prejudice based on race, ethnicity, gender, age, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, faith, socioeconomic background, or political views. As creative professionals and educators, we pursue collaborative excellence in our classrooms, rehearsals, and performances with a steadfast commitment to fair representation, while celebrating historically marginalized communities and their artistic legacies.
Our department offers both theoretical education and practical engagement in theatre, dance, and film production. Recent performances have featured: Opening Door Dance Theatre, Merge Dance Company, Pippin, Student Choreographers Showcase Into the Woods, She Kills Monsters, The Wolves, The Liar, Mala Hierba, Life Sucks, Spring Awakening, Macbeth, El Nogalar, Father Comes Home From the Wars, Rent, Small Mouth Sounds, and the New Works Festival.
This program delivers practical training and career development opportunities across the dance sector, encompassing arts management, dance studio operations, pre-professional company administration, and international/domestic study programs. Participants complete at least 150 hours of field experience, establish a learning contract with their internship supervisor, and compile a professional portfolio. The Dance Internship provides students with valuable industry experience through substantive, relevant work in the dance profession.
