The Psychology graduate program provides two degree options:
Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology
Master of Science or Master of Arts in General Psychology
Both psychology graduate programs include thesis and non-thesis tracks.
Applicants to these psychology graduate programs need a minimum of 18 undergraduate psychology credit hours. Required coursework for both programs includes statistics and experimental psychology/research methods.
Counseling Psychology MA candidates must complete coursework in: abnormal psychology, personality theory, and developmental psychology (covering lifespan, child, adolescent, or adult development).
General Psychology MS applicants need three courses from: cognitive psychology, learning and memory, social psychology, biopsychology, physiological psychology, sensation and perception, personality, abnormal psychology, developmental psychology (lifespan, child, adolescent, or adult development), and/or history and systems of psychology.
Some students may require additional undergraduate coursework to qualify for specific TAMUK graduate classes. Program applicants should maintain a minimum 3.0 undergraduate Psychology GPA, with a target GRE score of 297 (combined Verbal and Quantitative).
The General Psychology Master's program prepares students for PhD studies, with graduates pursuing careers in teaching and research. Alumni pursuing doctorates often specialize in Social Psychology, Education, Developmental Education, Audiology, or Neuroscience Psychology.
