The Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology program is tailored for individuals pursuing careers in diverse mental health service areas. Graduates with this MA degree secure positions across multiple environments such as community and state mental health organizations, college wellness facilities, addiction recovery centers, and independent practices. Many alumni advance into academic and research roles at junior colleges and universities, while others continue their education by earning doctorates in Clinical or Counseling Psychology.
This curriculum equips students to qualify for the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) examination, mandating completion of 60 credit hours as stipulated by the Texas Board of Licensed Professional Counselor Examiners. Participants must also undertake a supervised practicum, gaining direct client experience. Additionally, each student concludes their studies by producing either a thesis or a research project.
