The College of Education and Human Performance holds accreditation for its Reading Specialist EC-12 preparation program. This Master of Science in Reading Specialization focuses on assisting students who struggle with reading acquisition. The curriculum highlights leveraging students' existing abilities while delivering comprehensive training, culminating in both a university-conferred Master's degree and state certification as a Reading Specialist. Certification requires passing the TExES exam and demonstrating at least two years of qualified teaching experience.
Prospective students must gain admission to the Graduate College and complete an Application for Admission to Educator Preparation-Professional Class to pursue Reading Specialist EC-12 certification. These application materials can be obtained through the program coordinator or the Certification Office in Rhode Hall 112. Program eligibility requires applicants to possess at least a bachelor's degree.
