The Department of Biology and Health Sciences at Texas A&M University Kingsville is committed to delivering outstanding teaching, research, and service. We focus on ensuring our students' achievements, and our faculty's robust research foundation enables us to offer exceptional academic and research opportunities for undergraduates in cellular, molecular, and animal biology, biomedical science, and human nutrition. Many qualified undergraduates serve as Lab Assistants in our laboratory courses, acquiring valuable educational and instructional experience.
Program Highlights
Twelve active faculty research laboratories, with most concentrating on biomedical studies.
A "teaching through research" approach. In addition to graduate students, almost every faculty lab includes undergraduate research participants.
An annual growth rate exceeding 5% over the past four years.
A robust and effective pre-health advising program. Out of 475 undergraduate majors, 65% are pursuing pre-health careers in Pharmacy, Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Optometry, or Physical Therapy.
The Biology program serves as a South Texas pathway for students advancing to Ph.D. or professional programs.
Undergraduate applicants who have no previous work at the postsecondary level must have at least a 2.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) from a secondary school and must also meet the criteria for admission to a postsecondary school in the applicant’s home country.
A minimum TOEFL score of 61 (Internet-based) or 500 (paper-based) is required. or IELTS 6.0 overall band score.
