Participants in this program develop advanced skills in delivering culturally and linguistically responsive special education services to students with both common and rare disabilities. This program merges theoretical frameworks and teaching methods from both language minority education and special education. The 36-credit MS Special Education degree offers a comprehensive curriculum that bridges special education theory with English learner education practices. The program provides distinctive training tailored to students requiring special education services, particularly those from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Coursework focuses on teaching strategies for students with various disability types, covering cognitive, communication, behavioral, social, and functional domains. Additional training includes consultation techniques, collaborative approaches, and family support systems. The MS Special Education program is offered in a hybrid learning format.
