The Bachelor of Fine Arts program's curriculum aims to deliver professional training in visual arts at the undergraduate level, focusing on intensive studio art studies. Students must complete at least 75 semester hours in art courses, with a minimum of 36 hours in advanced-level classes. The art program serves multiple objectives: offering a broad foundation that exposes students to diverse artistic mediums, studio practices, and teaching methods; enabling exploration of historical and contemporary art forms while examining art's societal role; providing courses to broaden non-majors' artistic knowledge and appreciation; and enriching campus and community culture through high-quality exhibitions at Weil Gallery. The department offers both Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree options. BFA candidates can use electives to specialize in areas like Printmaking, Painting, Sculpture, Ceramics, Photography, Drawing, or Art History beyond the core curriculum.
Graduates will achieve professional competence in visual arts for career preparation, master studio techniques while comprehending theoretical and historical concepts (as shown in their senior exhibitions), and develop specialized skills in their chosen concentration area.
