The Master of Science (MS) program is structured to provide students with in-depth expertise in both foundational principles and a specialized concentration aligned with their academic interests. Foundational coursework encompasses classical and modern theories, along with qualitative and quantitative methodologies for analyzing societal phenomena. The MS curriculum supports specializations in diverse fields including race/ethnicity, gender, social stratification, political systems, environmental studies, organizational behavior, public health, social psychology, criminology, legal studies, demographic trends, migration patterns, educational systems, urban segregation, economic development, historical analysis, and cultural studies. Under faculty mentorship, students explore their chosen specialization through advanced study, with opportunities for original research. The program offers both thesis and non-thesis degree pathways. Degree conferral depends on the student's comprehensive understanding of their specialization and demonstrated proficiency in articulate verbal and written communication.
Graduates with an MS in Sociology possess strong qualifications for doctoral studies and diverse professional opportunities. Career paths frequently include academic positions as college instructors or research roles across public institutions and private organizations.
