The Department of Biology provides advanced degree programs tailored to equip students for professional roles in academia, government organizations, and private sector research. Situated at the heart of Texas A&M University's campus, the Biological Sciences Complex features cutting-edge research facilities. Over 50 specialized laboratories support investigations across cellular, molecular, organismal, and ecological disciplines using advanced instrumentation. This infrastructure enables diverse research concentrations, including access to the Microscopy Imaging Center, modern animal care facilities, and a premier DNA sequencing lab. The Master of Science (MS) program fosters original discovery through rigorous research and creative scholarship, offering both thesis and non-thesis pathways. Thesis candidates must complete 32 credit hours of approved coursework and research, while non-thesis students need 36 credit hours of approved classes. Typically, students focus their studies primarily on one or two interconnected disciplines while exploring supplementary areas of interest.
