Each year, Texas farmers cultivate 2.0 million acres to yield over 200 million bushels of corn. This Texas-grown corn, utilized in animal feed, food products, and industrial applications, injects more than $1.2 billion into the state's agricultural economy annually. Across the United States, corn stands as the top cash crop, with 85 million acres harvested yearly generating 7 to 9 billion bushels.
Grain sorghum serves as a vital component in Texas farming systems due to its ability to withstand heat and drought conditions. The state dedicates roughly three million acres annually to this crop, producing an average of 130 million bushels. Beyond its significance as a grain harvest, sorghum also holds substantial value as a source of forage, hay, and silage for Texas agriculture.
