Current students at Texas A&M University's Galveston campus can apply to become University Studies majors. This unique degree program offers the adaptability to blend academic disciplines across campuses based on individual interests. It's particularly beneficial for students with specific career aspirations or graduate school plans.
Certain mandatory courses must be completed for concentrations and minors, some of which have prerequisite requirements. Students must complete one minor outside their concentration's home college.
Applicants need to submit a Proposed Course Form outlining their customized degree plan to the University Studies admissions committee. This application requires a 2-3 page essay detailing how the program aligns with the student's educational and personal objectives. After verifying the form's completeness, the concentration department will review it. Applicants must maintain satisfactory academic performance in all coursework counting toward their concentration or minors.
University Studies majors will be affiliated with their concentration's department - for example, the Tourism and Coastal Community Development concentration falls under Liberal Studies. Diplomas will display either Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science as usual, with University Studies appearing where majors are typically listed. The transcript will specify the concentration and both minors.
