The Department of Atmospheric Sciences provides a Bachelor of Science program in Meteorology. The undergraduate program focuses on weather analysis and forecasting while also covering climatology, atmospheric chemistry, cloud physics, and atmospheric monitoring techniques using radar and satellite technology. This curriculum demonstrates how meteorology builds upon core principles of physics, chemistry, and mathematics. The field also intersects with oceanography and other earth sciences, which students may explore through elective coursework.
Graduates with a BS in Meteorology frequently find careers with organizations like the National Weather Service, private weather forecasting firms, environmental consulting agencies, aviation companies, media outlets, energy sector businesses, academic institutions, state agencies, agricultural enterprises, and technology industries. Some graduates pursue weather officer roles in the armed forces. Teaching and research positions typically require advanced degrees.
