The Marine Engineering Technology (MARR) program prepares students for professional engineering careers in the maritime sector. This program provides an applied engineering education with specialized maritime emphasis. The MARR curriculum represents a thermal power-focused specialization within a traditional Mechanical Engineering Technology framework. Foundational coursework in mathematics, science, and engineering principles supports advanced study in ship propulsion systems, electrical power generation, and distribution equipment. Marine Engineering Technology concentrates on power cycles, fundamental principles, and methodologies for converting diverse energy forms into practical power. The maritime sector is increasingly adopting clean energy solutions aboard vessels, with alternative fuels and Hybrid Energy Storage Systems (HESS) becoming more prevalent. The curriculum examines the selection and operation of primary components and auxiliary systems within power cycles. Marine engineering courses are complemented by studies in automation and control systems, naval architecture, and maritime applications of electrical engineering fundamentals. Student learning is strengthened through computer simulations of propulsion systems and hands-on operation of marine equipment aboard the University's training vessel. Those pursuing USCG certification should select the license option. The Marine Engineering Technology (MARR) Program holds accreditation from ABET's Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission.
