The College of Engineering and School of Law provide a joint degree program that awards both a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Engineering (ITDE) and a Juris Doctor (JD). This accelerated pathway enables students to finish both degrees in six years, saving one year compared to pursuing them separately.
This integrated program builds students' engineering and technology foundation before advancing to legal studies and practice. Legal specialties that benefit from technical expertise include intellectual property law, environmental regulations, and occupational health and safety law. The curriculum creates synergy between the two disciplines through coordinated coursework.
Participants begin with three years at the College of Engineering in College Station. Following the spring semester of their third year, students transition to the School of Law in Fort Worth for years four and five. The final sixth year combines law and engineering courses primarily in College Station, with students completing all BS-ITDE and JD requirements as outlined in the respective undergraduate and graduate catalogs.
