Entomology is the scientific study of insects and related organisms like ticks and mites. As some of Earth's most abundant and varied life forms, insects play crucial roles in nearly all land and water ecosystems. While humanity benefits from insects' diverse functions, certain species can negatively impact food production, crop storage, and the health of humans and animals. Entomologists' expertise is vital for modern pest control approaches that balance safe food production for a growing population, prevention of insect-borne illnesses, and protection of endangered species and delicate ecosystems.
The Entomology Bachelor of Science program equips students for high-demand careers in agribusiness, urban pest control, scientific organizations, public health agencies, and government bodies at all levels. Graduates can pursue opportunities in forensic entomology, environmental conservation, food safety, regulatory compliance, public health, and other fields. With guidance from academic advisors, students can customize their studies to prepare for graduate programs, health professions (medicine, veterinary, dentistry), or develop analytical skills valuable for legal education.
