The Bachelor of Arts in Journalism prepares aspiring journalists to report on diverse fields like news, sports, politics, arts, and entertainment, while developing skills in magazine writing and digital storytelling. Students in this program complete a minimum of 33 credit hours in journalism studies, covering essential topics such as media writing, research techniques, and professional journalism practices. Alongside immersive learning opportunities, every BA candidate must undertake a structured, credited internship aligned with their specialization. Additionally, journalism students select a minor from Texas A&M University's offerings and work with advisors to design a four-course concentration tailored to their personal interests.
The program also provides optional certification tracks in specialized areas like Global Media, Social Justice, Health Communication, Leadership & Conflict Management, Social Media, or Strategic Communication through the Department of Communication and Journalism.
You are an international freshman if you:
are not a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or
are not graduating from a Texas high school after three years in residence in Texas and
are a student without college credit or
earned college credit prior to high school graduation (dual credit/early college high school)
English proficiency can also be demonstrated by:
Minimum TOEFL i-BT score of 80
Minimum TOEFL Essentials score of 8.5
Minimum IELTS Academic test score of 6.0 overall band (Texas A&M University does not accept the IELTS General test)
