The doctoral program in school psychology offers specialized training for aspiring professionals to practice psychology in educational and clinical environments. With an ecological-contextual approach, the curriculum focuses on supporting children, families, and school systems. The School Psychology doctoral concentration mandates completion of at least sixty-six (63) semester hours, covering foundational coursework in psychology and education, specialized electives, practical training, and dissertation research. Applicants holding an Ed.S. degree in school psychology from accredited institutions may transfer up to thirty credit hours, subject to program approval. Doctoral candidates in School Psychology may only attempt the qualifying examination after fulfilling graduate-level coursework in statistics, psychometrics, counseling theories, intelligence assessment, and learning theory. Most students complete these prerequisites during their master's studies before entering the doctoral program. Upon initial enrollment, doctoral students must consult with their faculty advisor to verify prerequisite completion and determine any additional required coursework.
