The Community Arts Practices Program is dedicated to serving Philadelphia's diverse communities while educating Tyler students to merge artistic practices with community engagement skills, preparing them for meaningful civic participation in modern society. The program designs and implements university courses, after-school programs, cross-generational discussions, multidisciplinary performances, and location-based art installations. Central to its mission are collaborative partnerships and internships that allow Tyler/Temple students to grow as community-engaged artists. In recent years, the program has produced numerous community-driven artworks, fostering lasting neighborhood connections that lead to sustained initiatives. Our collaborations have involved youth and adults, organizations and families across North Philadelphia and surrounding areas, creating vibrant community art alliances that spark conversations, preserve heritage, and develop exhibitions and performances rooted in local narratives and student experiences. Tyler provides an undergraduate Certificate in Community Arts Practices exclusively at the Main Campus through this initiative.
