The Instrumental Studies Department provides a curriculum culminating in a Master of Music degree with a focus on Wind-Band Conducting. This program enables students to gain advanced training in technical skills, artistic interpretation, and academic research while equipping them for careers as conductor-educators in either academic or professional environments. Participants learn to analyze complex ensemble performances, develop effective rehearsal techniques, understand how textual elements influence musical expression, differentiate between various ensemble formats, and enhance their piano proficiency for demanding chamber and accompanied repertoire. The Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting with Wind-Band Emphasis at Temple's Boyer College of Music and Dance cultivates sophisticated expertise in wind ensemble direction. This 32-credit, six-year graduate program prepares graduates for both doctoral-level study and professional roles as conductor-educators, with specialized training in wind instruments and band performance.
