The M.F.A. in Theater/Playwriting focuses on nurturing each writer's distinct artistic vision while providing essential tools for a sustainable creative career. The program's core classes offer intensive instruction across various writing styles, with a strong emphasis on technical mastery. Students also engage in classes that highlight theater's collaborative essence, fostering connections with artists from diverse fields. The flexible curriculum encourages exploration beyond theater disciplines, enabling research in subjects like African American Studies, Anthropology, Art History, Music, or Women's Studies to enrich creative projects. With intentionally limited class sizes, the program prioritizes personalized mentorship. Our goal is to prepare playwrights to thrive in today's artistic environment and adapt to future creative challenges. Qualification Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Discipline/Related Discipline: All applicants must present credentials that are the equivalent of the baccalaureate degree at Temple University.
Statement of Goals: Introduce yourself in approximately 500 words by relaying your relevant experience, values, and areas of interest. Proper essay form should be used, but it may be in a personal style.
Standardized Test Scores: No standardized test is used for admission to the M.F.A. Acting program.
Audition: We audition through URTA with audition sites in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco and locally on the Temple University campus.
Interview: In addition to the audition, applicants who are called back for an interview are required to bring transcripts, a headshot, and a resume. Interviews are generally held in February and March.
Resume: Current resume required.
The minimum admissions standard for all graduate students is ordinarily an undergraduate grade point average of B or 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or the functional equivalent for students who have attended universities outside of the United States.
