The George Abbott Master of Fine Arts in Musical Theater Collaboration equips students for professional careers as creative collaborators and independent artists in both commercial and nonprofit musical theater, including educational initiatives. This graduate program focuses on hands-on, craft-oriented training through extensive studio work, workshops, and production opportunities. Unlike traditional programs that separate artistic disciplines, it highlights the essential collaborative spirit of this multifaceted performance art.

As the nation's sole MFA program of its kind, this innovative degree trains book writers, choreographers, composers, directors, lyricists, and playwrights collectively as a unified group. The curriculum covers the field's history and aesthetics while also addressing industry business practices. Designed to reflect real-world creative processes, the program teaches core artistic skills and teamwork while providing mentorship and access to talent crucial for developing new musical theater works.
