The Special Education (SPED) program at the College of Education and Human Development prepares educators with comprehensive knowledge of education's sociocultural dimensions, research-backed teaching methods, and proactive strategies to ensure fair learning opportunities for students with disabilities. This program aligns with and advances the College's and University's goals by: Encouraging classroom application of research-proven techniques, Addressing how social and cultural influences affect special education, Championing inclusion in educational settings and broader communities, and Prioritizing preventive measures to enhance instruction. The Master of Education (MEd) in Special Education program concentrates on implementing proven teaching methods, enhancing awareness of sociocultural influences on special education, moving beyond diagnostic labels to improve learning outcomes, and fostering inclusive environments in schools and society.

Qualification Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Discipline/Related Discipline: A bachelor's degree is required. A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is expected.

International applicants should also submit an official document that validates completion and conferral of a degree, diploma, and/or certificate. While not required, international applicants are encouraged to submit transcript(s) to the World Education Services (WES) for evaluation.

Statement of Goals: In 500 to 1,000 words, outline your interest in seeking a master's degree with a specific focus on the career to which you aspire, your interests, and your academic and job-related experiences that are relevant to the program.

Standardized Test Scores:
Applicants who earned their baccalaureate degree from an institution where the language of instruction was other than English, with the exception of those who subsequently earned a master's degree at a U.S. institution, must report scores for a standardized test of English that meet these minimums:

550 on the paper-based (PBT)

The minimum admissions standard for all graduate students is ordinarily an undergraduate grade point average of B or 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or the functional equivalent for students who have attended universities outside of the United States.
