Political theory examines key societal issues like social and economic disparities during late modernity, encompassing globalization, identity politics, and activist movements. The graduate program in Political Science at Temple University focuses on equipping students for academic careers, balancing research and teaching preparation. Many MA candidates plan to continue toward a PhD, either at Temple or other institutions, either immediately or after gaining work experience. Prospective PhD candidates are advised to apply directly to the doctoral program during initial admissions. Some MA students leverage the degree to enhance teaching qualifications or secure roles in public/private sectors, while others strengthen their profiles for professional degree applications. Temple University's College of Liberal Arts offers a 30-credit Master of Arts in Political Science, providing comprehensive training in political systems and power dynamics across domestic and international contexts. The curriculum explores core theoretical and methodological frameworks, covering four principal subfields: American Politics (analyzing political behavior, economic systems, institutions, and urban policy), Comparative Politics (studying democratization, state economic involvement, and political conflict), International Relations (theorizing global politics, security, economic systems, and organizations), and Political Theory (investigating inequality, globalization, and identity movements in contemporary society).
