Tyler's MA in Art History/Arts Management track offers a focused academic route for those aiming to elevate artists, artworks, and audiences through leadership roles in arts administration. Guided by faculty member Linda Earle, an accomplished arts administrator specializing in community engagement, equity, inclusion, and free expression, this program explores the dynamics influencing cultural organizations—from funding to physical spaces. The curriculum blends art historical study with practical coursework examining the operational realities of art and artists. Students can select relevant courses from Tyler's Architecture or Art Education departments, as well as from the College of Education, Fox School of Business, or Klein College of Media and Communication, tailoring their studies in consultation with Professor Earle. The program cultivates leadership competencies, knowledge of Philadelphia's nonprofit and commercial arts landscape, and awareness of ethical/legal challenges facing arts administrators—all reinforced through hands-on internships. As cultural institutions navigate shifting audience profiles, economic structures, and societal expectations, Tyler's arts management graduates emerge equipped with versatile skills to operate effectively across diverse communities and professional domains.
