Oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) represents one of the ten dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association. These surgical experts address conditions, defects, injuries, and cosmetic concerns involving the mouth, teeth, jaws, and facial structures. Their expertise encompasses dental implant placement, wisdom tooth removal, corrective surgeries for cleft lips/palates and facial skeletal abnormalities, as well as diagnosing and treating temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.

Kornberg School of Dentistry's OMS certificate program complements Temple University's Lewis Katz School of Medicine MD program. This dual MD/OMS residency program:

enables Kornberg to deliver full-spectrum oral surgical care, ranging from basic extractions to complex hospital-based procedures, with faculty providing both classroom teaching and clinical oversight as a principal training location,
strengthens Kornberg's support for its extensive predoctoral program and specialty areas like general dentistry, implantology, and periodontology through enhanced collaboration across different dental education levels, and
boosts Temple University Hospital's ability to handle oral and facial trauma cases requiring emergency treatment.
