The Orthodontics Advanced Graduate Education Program at Harvard School of Dental Medicine equips students with the expertise to deliver ethical, patient-focused, and research-backed orthodontic care. Our goal is to produce specialists with exceptional technical proficiency, a solid scientific background, intellectual curiosity, and leadership potential in orthodontics education and research. The curriculum balances clinical excellence, research methodology, and leadership development. Admission to this selective program is extremely competitive.
This program cultivates clinician-scholars pursuing careers in academic teaching, research, and clinical practice. Participants fulfill both didactic and clinical certification requirements while completing coursework in oral biology, biostatistics, and fundamental medical sciences. Students must develop an NIH-style research proposal, conduct original research, and defend a thesis. Typically spanning three years alongside clinical training, successful graduates earn a Master of Medical Sciences (MMSc) in oral biology with an orthodontics certificate from Harvard University's Faculty of Medicine upon meeting all program requirements.
