Temple University provides a diverse and adaptable graduate program in History at the Ph.D. level, located in Philadelphia's resource-rich environment with abundant historical archives and museums. While core requirements guarantee all graduates understand fundamental historical concepts and contemporary professional approaches, the curriculum emphasizes two key themes: Environments, Cities, and Cultures, as well as War, Empire, and Society. The Ph.D. program's primary goal is to train professional historians for careers in academia, public history, government roles, or related fields. Develop comprehensive expertise across historical eras and modern methodologies to become a skilled historian through Temple University's College of Liberal Arts Doctor of Philosophy in History. This doctoral program prepares students for professional paths in either academic or public history settings, requiring either 24 post-Master's credits or 39 post-Bachelor's credits in History.
