Gain professional performance expertise through Temple University's Boyer College of Music and Dance Bachelor of Music (BM) in Performance program. Select from various specialized concentrations in this intensive 124-credit, full-time degree program. Receive expert training from faculty affiliated with prestigious organizations including Opera Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Ballet, and The Philadelphia Orchestra. The Performance BM program combines liberal arts education with practical training in solo and ensemble performance, creating diverse career opportunities in music. Students engage in eight semesters of private instruction and ensemble work while studying aural theory, music history, and concentration-specific coursework. The curriculum also covers essential business skills for professional musicians. As members of the Center for Performing and Cinematic Arts, students perform in Temple Performing Arts Center productions and may participate in performances at Philadelphia's Kimmel Center and New York's Lincoln Center.
The program emphasizes both traditional symphonic masterpieces and contemporary works. Practical experience comes through participation in the university's three orchestras: Opera, Sinfonia, or Symphony Orchestra. Many faculty members perform with The Philadelphia Orchestra and other leading metropolitan arts organizations.
