Enhance your jazz expertise through Temple University's Boyer College of Music and Dance with a Bachelor of Music (BM) in Jazz Studies Composition. This 123-credit program equips graduates for professional paths in jazz composition, performance, and education, as well as creating works for ensembles of varying sizes. As a Temple undergraduate, you'll immerse yourself in Philadelphia's rich jazz legacy, a city that shaped legends like John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, and Grover Washington. Many alumni perform professionally across Philadelphia's vibrant music scene. Through masterclasses, guest lectures, and collaborations with nationally acclaimed artists, you'll refine skills in jazz analysis, arranging, composition, and improvisation. The program has hosted distinguished instructors including percussionist Adam Nussbaum, saxophonist Gary Smulyan, and vibraphonist Warren Wolf. Jazz Composition students receive specialized training on their primary instrument through private lessons and senior recital opportunities. The intimate Music Studies Department fosters close mentorship, with faculty supporting students throughout their academic journey.
