The Composition program at the School of Music nurtures students' unique creative abilities while establishing a strong grounding in fundamental musical concepts - including theory, musicianship, history, and literature. Participants gain practical expertise in various compositional methods, encompassing technological advancements like MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface), electronic music production, orchestration, music notation, avant-garde techniques, and conducting. The program provides opportunities for students to collaborate with School of Music ensembles and performers who frequently interpret student works and conduct reading sessions. Additionally, composition students leverage the university's cutting-edge music technology resources, including an extensive array of computer systems, electronic instruments, and a top-tier digital recording facility. This comprehensive training helps students cultivate their distinctive compositional style while preparing for professional careers in music composition, theory, or further academic pursuits.

Admission to the University of Oklahoma is based on completion of a rigorous secondary school curriculum, demonstrated by a recognized certificate of completion that would qualify you for entrance into a university in your country.

Applicants must submit official transcripts from each institution attended.
Freshman must submit official transcripts from all secondary or middle schools attended. If secondary school in your country includes standardized graduation exams and certificates, official copies of these should be submitted.
All freshman applicants are required to submit one letter of recommendation, two additional letters may be submitted.
Any high school official, including a counselor, teacher, principal, etc. Preferably someone who knows the student well.
