The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Media Arts with a Directing Concentration is a rigorous professional program designed to equip students for either graduate film studies or professional directing careers. This program covers both fiction and documentary directing approaches. Students will complete their studies by directing an advanced creative project in the BFA Directing Project Courses. While narrative and documentary students follow the same core curriculum, their elective paths differ. Narrative-focused students select two courses from: Screen Directing, Screen Performance, and Scene Analysis. Documentary students choose two options from: Documentary Production, Experimental Media Workshop, Anthropological Film/Media, or Documentary Research and Development. All directing students specialize in either documentary or narrative filmmaking, with coursework exploring analytical frameworks for film critique, cultural impacts on cinema, and techniques for both fiction and non-fiction directing.
