The Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling equips students to foster client growth and deliver diverse wellness and advocacy services.
Housed within the Department of Counseling and Human Services, this program emphasizes social justice, culturally responsive skills, advocacy, and leadership. Graduates will gain expertise in conducting thorough needs assessments, creating joint treatment plans, documenting case notes for varied client populations, and establishing structured clinical intervention approaches. All counseling professionals, irrespective of specialization, prioritize wellness, developmental support, preventive care, and client empowerment. This CACREP-accredited curriculum fulfills educational prerequisites for New York State licensure in clinical mental health counseling and National Counselor Certification.
The 60-credit Clinical Mental Health Counseling master's program typically takes two years of full-time study (including summers) to complete, though part-time options are available with advisor guidance. Students must finish within seven years. Course schedules are designed for afternoon and evening availability to accommodate practicums, internships, and work commitments.
