The Master of Music (M.Mus.) program in conducting provides specialization in three tracks: winds/percussion, vocal, and strings. While students focus on one primary concentration, they also receive training across disciplines for a well-rounded education.
Graduate candidates must fulfill a nine-credit core curriculum covering research, music history, and music theory. Typically, students complete 34-36 graduate credits post-baccalaureate, usually spanning four semesters. The M.Mus. program follows a consistent structure across all specializations: 8 major credits, 3 credits each in music history and theory, 3 research credits, 2 recital credits, with remaining credits allocated to specialized courses, music literature, electives, or open electives (depending on the chosen focus).
This curriculum fosters advanced performance skills and comprehensive musical understanding, culminating in two graduate recitals as a final requirement. Students must also complete written and oral comprehensive examinations in their last semester.
