Ceramic arts education encompasses diverse disciplines like pottery, sculpting, and tile mosaic creation. Our program fosters innovation through expert faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and versatile resources that support both conventional and unconventional methods. The curriculum covers various firing techniques including high-fire reduction, oxidation, salt glazing, wood firing, soda firing, pit firing, and raku, along with access to an Anagama kiln.
Syracuse has a rich ceramic heritage, highlighted by the Everson Museum's exceptional collection of American ceramic artworks. Our program features a dynamic visiting artist initiative, a tradition of exhibition curation, and prepares graduates for active engagement in the global ceramics community.
The School of Art's ceramics program maintains national prominence, earning the #16 spot in U.S. News & World Report's 2013 rankings of top graduate fine arts programs for ceramics.
