Gaining a deep comprehension of contemporary legal practice requires a solid foundation in its historical roots, encompassing both U.S. legal development and the common law traditions of influential nations like the United Kingdom. The investigative and critical thinking abilities honed by historians prove equally valuable for legal professionals. Syracuse University offers a combined J.D./Master of Arts in History program through collaboration with the Maxwell School's History Department. This history M.A. program aims to cultivate analytical methods, expand expertise in the student's chosen field, and provide tailored research opportunities in consultation with faculty advisors.

Educational Records
Syracuse University College of Law requires that your foreign transcripts be submitted through the LSAC J.D. Credential Assembly Service. If you completed any postsecondary work outside the US (including its territories) or Canada, you must use this service for the evaluation of your foreign transcripts.

One exception to this requirement is if you completed the foreign work through a study abroad, consortium, or exchange program sponsored by a US or Canadian institution, and the work is clearly indicated as such on the home campus transcript. This service is included in the CAS subscription fee.

A Foreign Credential Evaluation will be completed by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), which will be incorporated into your CAS report.

The TOEFL/IELTS score requirement will be waived for non-resident students who have completed a four-year undergraduate program or minimum of two years of graduate work in a U.S. college or university. The College of Law recommends a TOEFL score in the range of 100 or an IELTS score in the range of 7.0.
